Clendenin is a small town located in Kanawha County, West Virginia. It is nestled alongside the Elk River. Clendenin was incorporated in the year 1904, named after an early family from Charleston, WV. (Clendenin at one time, encompassed a much larger area which included parts of the current Charleston, West Virginia.)

One of the defining times in history for Clendenin was in the early 1920's when Union Carbide built their original petrochemical plant in the town.

The current Mayor of Clendenin, WV is Mr. Robert Ore. Town elections were just held 2007, reelecting Mayor Ore.

Clendenin West Virginia has a population of 1,116 according to the 2000 Census report. The United States Postal ZIP code for Clendenin is 25045.

Herbert Hoover High School is the primary high school for the Clendenin area, even though the school is outside of the current city limits. HHHS brings the Elk River town together each and every year when the sports teams are playing. Football is notably the largest sport in which the school participates.

The construction of Herbert Hoover High School was completed in September of 1963. Even though Herbert Hoover High School sits outside the current city limits of Clendenin, it uses the 25045 ZIP code and is the primary High School for the children of Clendenin. It has seen many renovations and updates over the years due to growth and local floods.
